I’ll share things like fun facts about benefits of music education, just things to pique the interest of the parents and the students. So that if the students are interested in something, they might go to their parents and say, “Hey, did you know this about music?” or something to start a conversation there.

Abbie Hunter

Today in our last interview of the season, I’m chatting with Abbie Hunter all about building community support. This episode pairs perfectly with our conversation from last week, where Abbie shares her experiences with cultivating a culture of appreciation and excitement when it comes to music teaching and learning. I know you’ll love her optimistic attitude and practical tips for advocating for your program!

Hello, my name is Abbie Hunter and I am so happy to be a part of The Anacrusic Podcast! I will be starting my fourth year of teaching in August. I currently teach grades 3-5 general music and 6th grade choir in Danville Community School Corporation in Danville, Indiana. I graduated from the University of Indianapolis in 2016. My primary instruments are voice, piano, and cello. My husband is also an elementary music teacher, and it is so fun to share ideas with one another. Over the past three years, one large undertaking of mine has been to build a culture of community engagement and support of the arts here in Danville, and I am excited to discuss this further on TAP!
